Five Community Involvement Tips for Local Business Owners

Idaho Trust Bank recently celebrated its 27th year in business. Founded right here in Idaho, we have no one to thank more than our local community. Idaho Trust Bank was founded in 1994 by two brothers with a vision for a local community bank that served clients, not customers. That vision has propelled us forward ever since. Being involved in your local community is a win-win. It’s great for the community and it’s great for your business. Not sure where to start? We’ve compiled a list of five ways to get more involved in your local community.

  1. Get in touch with your local chamber of commerce. A chamber of commerce is a partnership of businesses and professionals working together to build the local economy and increase quality of life in your area. We are active members of the Boise Metro Chamber and the Coeur d’Alene Regional Chamber and are repeat sponsors of several great events like the BVEP Economic Summit. It’s a great way to get to know other local businesses and come together to achieve common goals.

  1. Set aside time for volunteering. Giving your employees the chance to support causes they care about is great for both the community and employee morale. You can do this by setting up an after-hours volunteer activity or simply give your employees time to choose their own way to give back. We offer all our employees an extra paid day of leave to spend volunteering.

  1. Donate to causes that align with your company values. Take the time to think about what is important to you and your business and find a need you can help fill there. If you’re in tech you may be particularly passionate about STEM education. If you work in the medical field you may wish to focus on access to affordable healthcare. Look for local organizations that align with your values and ask how you can help.

  1. Participate in local events. Even if you aren’t in a position to sponsor an event, showing up still makes a positive impact! Getting to know members of your community (and giving them a chance to get to know you) can make all the difference. You never know when you’ll meet your next employee, your most loyal customer, or new business partner.

  1. Do business locally whenever you can. Support local businesses the way you hope they will support you. That can mean finding local suppliers instead of national ones, holding events at local venues or banking with a local institution. We love working with local businesses because we’re a local business too! Our full suite of business services means no matter the size or industry of your business, we have a solution to help you achieve your business goals.
