Idaho Trust clients Jack and Sue Simpson were recently highlighted in the Costco Connection magazine for their Opportunity Foundation, which they started in 2006. The foundation supports a K-5 school in India with a staff of 25, feeds and educates 300 children and provides medical services to 5,000 slum residents. They also recently started a new “safe center” in northeastern Thailand that will offer a home, education, healthcare and counseling for 400 abused girls, victims of child slavery.
These projects are funded with 30% of the profits from their Coeur d’Alene Idaho 3D architectural design and drafting software company, Chief Architect. Idaho Trust would like to recognize and thank Jack and Sue for all they are doing to provide care, support and love for so many people who otherwise would go unnoticed.

My favorite thing about it is the bread – they bake their own and it’s perfect for New York sandwiches.

Another new face on the block is Texas Boogie, formerly the 8th Street Wine Co. It’s now a Texas barbeque place that has a full menu, full bar, and dueling pianos in the evenings. I have only tried the appetizers so far, but they were great and the staff is friendly and prompt. And if it’s style you’re after, you’ll love Lunatic Fringe, the new trendy salon right next door to Idaho Trust. The stylists create fresh and gorgeous looks for everyone, and offer a unique line of hair care products. I’ve been a couple of times to get my hair styled for special events and I loved the way it looked every time. If only I could have them style it every morning!

And finally, it’s Capital City Market season once again! Come down on Saturday morning and stroll through! You’ll find that many of the same vendors have returned, along with some new ones this year. You’d have to spend a few hours to see everything, but it would be time well spent. One new booth that I particularly liked was Cinder Wines. The name Cinder comes from the layers of volcanic remnants found under the vineyards in Idaho. Did I mention the wines are lovely? You can stop by their booth on Saturdays and meet the winemaker, or check them out at www.cinderwines.com.

This year’s Chocolate & Diamonds fundraiser at the Discovery Center was just as spectacular as it has been in years past. On Friday night supporters of the Discovery Center gathered in cocktail attire and experienced a wonderful night of hours d’oeuvres, chocolate and of course, diamonds. After we were first greeted with champagne we browsed the many silent auction tables and bid hopefully on the items we wanted, and then bought raffle tickets for the diamond necklace. Then it was on to the delicious hors d’oeuvres. The most unique thing on the menu was the tower of macaroni and cheese, served in metallic mini takeout boxes. It was a great presentation and it tasted like heaven. Of course, none of this compared to the chocolate! The displays were beautifully made and the chocolatiers stood proudly behind them as we sampled a variety of truffles and cakes and then cast our votes. The live auction was lively as usual, and then came the diamond raffle. For the second year in a row, someone at the Idaho Trust table won the gorgeous diamond necklace. We seem to be on a winning streak so I will for sure sit at Idaho Trust’s table again next year! Thank you to all of the sponsors and to the Discovery Center for creating such a beautiful evening.

The goal is to improve the overall health of each participating employee and then be measured against the success of other area businesses. The business with the most improvement will win the Cup! We began the challenge on Monday, January 5th with a kickoff presentation and then everyone was weighed and measured. During this time we’ll be concentrating on drinking a lot of water, eating healthier meals and expending more energy! It is our hope that as a staff we will create healthy, lifelong habits that will improve our quality of life at the workplace and also at home. (Oh, and we kind of want to win! ) We have two more weigh-ins before the grand finale. Good luck, Idaho Trust!
